Gritting in and around Fen Ditton

I've just had word from the County Council about plans for road gritting in the area in the event of more snow and ice.

The main B1047 (Ditton Lane/Horningsea Road) will be gritted from the A14 junction down to Newmarket Road. There will be no gritting between the A14 junction and Waterbeach, nor will High Ditch Road or High Street.

Basically, road salt is being rationed across the country by the Department for Transport's "Salt Cell", and local authorities are being told to halve the amount of salt they use or face a reduction in their allowance. In the meantime, the public is being asked to write off their cars and break their limbs with good humour and a stiff upper lip(*).

More detail, including maps, at

(*) Possibly, I made this bit up.

Dear Ian,

We are currently undertaking a project for South Cambridgeshire District Council to understand better the way in which people are talking about their local area online. During the project we came across your very interesting website Fen Ditton Village News. and we would like to conduct a 20-30 minute telephone interview with you where we can obtain some further information on your motivation for engaging with the community online.

If you would be willing to assist us with this research which would greatly benefit the project for South Cambridgeshire District Council then please could you email me on richard.scales@public-i.info giving us a contact number and preferred time to call. We would like to conduct the interview some time between Monday 31st October to Friday 4th November.

Many thanks

Richard Scales
